3D Laser Scanning in Practice: Leica RTC360

For the digital surveying of existing industrial facilities, we use the Leica RTC360 3D laser scanner, which captures detailed spatial data in the form of a point cloud in just a few minutes. The resulting data provides an accurate basis for developing 3D models and project documentation.

Scanning is carried out from multiple carefully selected positions, depending on the size and complexity of the area. The captured data is then processed in Leica Cyclone REGISTER 360, where individual scans are registered, checked and cleaned to remove unwanted reflections and moving objects.

The resulting point cloud is subsequently processed in Autodesk ReCap for use across Autodesk applications. Our designers can work with the point cloud directly in AutoCAD Plant 3D or Inventor, using it as an accurate reference for 3D modelling and the subsequent preparation of drawings. We also use Navisworks Manage for model coordination and review.
